The Buffalo Sabres announced Saturday that forward Kyle Okposo will be out for the remainder of the 2020-21 season after undergoing successful surgery to repair a broken bone in his cheek.
Okposo, 33, sustained the injury in Thursday’s matchup against the Washington Capitals when he was struck in the side of the head on a shoot-in attempt.
Buffalo’s alternate captain had been playing well as of late, recording 10 points in the Sabres’ last 13 games.
Okposo joins a growing list of long-term injuries for the reeling Sabres, as Jack Eichel, Jake McCabe and Zemus Girgensons are all also out for the remainder of the season.
The forward will finish his season with two goals and 11 assists in 35 games.
