The Buffalo Sabres' woeful recent play seems to be triggering a very important meeting.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast that he is under the impression that team owner Terry Pegula is heading to Montreal to meet the free-falling team on Monday.
"That means, to me, one of two things," Friedman said. "Either he's making changes or he's saying this is the group, this is who we're going with. It's possible there's other options, but I wouldn't know what they are. I think it's one or the other. It's not often an owner goes on the road, either with the team or to meet the team. Obviously, it's a big day and a big meeting for the Sabres."
Sabres GM Kevyn Adams, hired in 2020, has been under intense local heat since a press conference on Dec. 6 when he said the city's lack of palm trees and high taxes are challenges for the team.
On a five-game losing streak at that point, the Sabres have now lost 10 in a row after setbacks in Washington and Toronto this past weekend.
Adams re-hired popular coach Lindy Ruff this past off-season to replace Don Granato, but the results have remained disappointing.
The Sabres have the longest active playoff drought in the NHL (13 years).
The lack of success comes in the shadow of Pegula's other major team, the NFL's Buffalo Bills, sitting at 11-3 following a road win over the NFC-leading Detroit Lions on Sunday.
