Buffalo Sabres forward JJ Peterka left Saturday's game against the New Jersey Devils in Prague after a hit by New Jersey Devils defenceman Brenden Dillon.
The hit came in the first period as Peterka was skating up the ice, and Dillon caught him up high with a hit. Peterka was seen grabbing his head as he hit the ice and was attended to by the Sabres' training staff.
After the game, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said that Peterka was diagnosed with a concussion and will fly home with the team.
Following the hit, Dillon was challenged to a fight by Buffalo's Alex Tuch. The officials reviewed the penalty after it was initially ruled a five-minute major, and it was then downgraded to a two-minute minor for interference.
Peterka, 22, logged an assist and two shots on goal in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Devils, which was also played in Prague as part of the NHL's Global Series.
In 2023-24, Peterka scored 28 goals and 50 points for the Sabres.
