Buffalo Sabres prospect Matt Savoie left during the opener of the Prospects Challenge against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
The injury occurred in the opening minute of the game as Savoie skated toward his own net to prevent a Penguins scoring chance. Savoie collided with Pittsburgh forward Jagger Joshua and slid toward the end boards before returning to his bench as the Penguins scored.
The Sabres selected Savoie ninth overall in the 2022 NHL Draft and have a roster spot open for some younger players to compete for after forward Jack Quinn suffered a ruptured Achilles at the end of June that will require four to six months to recover.
