Buffalo Sabres star Tage Thompson is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury, the team announced Monday. Whether or not this changes Thompson's status for this weekend's NHL All-Star festivities in Sunrise, Fla., is unclear.
The Sabres play their last game before the All-Star break Wednesday against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Thompson, 25, has broken out as a star in the league this season. Through 49 games, he has 34 goals and 34 assists — his 68 points already match his career-high set last season.
The Arizona native ranks fifth in points and third in goals across the NHL.
Should Thompson remain out through the break, it's the latest blow to All-Star Weekend.
Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews, since replaced by Florida Panther captain Aleksander Barkov, will miss the event due to a knee sprain.
Seattle Kraken All-Star Matty Beniers is also out day-to-day, though he has not yet been ruled out of the All-Star Game.
