Injured goalie Ilya Samsonov and winger Matthew Knies took part in the game-day skate Friday morning but will not suit up for the Maple Leafs in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference semifinal against the Florida Panthers.
It marked the first time either had skated since their injuries.
"Just to see them on the ice and be able to stay out there as long as they were is very encouraging, and a very positive step in their recovery," said Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe.
Samsonov, who has been the Leafs' No. 1 during the playoffs, has been struggling with an upper-body injury since Game 3. Toronto's prize rookie Knies suffered a concussion and has been sidelined since midway through Game 2.
The Panthers lead the best-of-seven series 3-1. Game 5 is Friday, starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT, and can be seen on Sportsnet and SN NOW.
