The San Jose Sharks have signed defenceman Lucas Carlsson to a two-year, two-way deal with an annual $800,000 cap hit, the team announced on Monday.
The six-foot, left-handed blueliner spent the 2023-2024 campaign with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL, the minor league affiliate to the Florida Panthers. In 52 games as a Checker this season, Carlsson netted 15 goals with 24 assists for 39 points. The year prior, he tallied 20 goals, 34 assists for 54 points — all of which were career highs — throughout 61 games.
The Galve, Sweden native was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He then played for two years in the Swedish Hockey League with his hometown team, before coming over to play in Blackhawks farm system for the 2018-2019 season.
He made his NHL debut with Chicago during the 2019-2020 campaign, playing in six NHL games that year. He then split time between the Blackhawks and Panthers organizations over the next five seasons.
