The season may be over for the Ottawa Senators, but it isn't done for team captain Brady Tkachuk.
The 24-year-old, who was born in Scottsdale, Ariz., while his dad, Keith, played for the Coyotes, confirmed on Thursday that he would represent the U.S. at the World Hockey Championship in Czechia next month.
"Yeah, I'm going. I'm going to Worlds," said Tkachuk during the Senators' end-of-season availability. "I didn't really want to touch on it during the season because I wanted to focus on playing and finishing off hard, but yeah made the commitment to go there. They haven't won gold since, I think, 1933 or something like that."
Tkachuk, who came up through the U.S. National Development Program, has represented his country at the U17, U18 and World Junior level, collecting 21 points in 19 games. This will be his first time playing internationally at the senior level. He won a gold with the U18 U.S. team and a bronze at the 2018 World Junior Championship.
The World Hockey Championship takes place from May 10 to 26 in Prague and Ostrava.
