Ottawa Senators coach D.J. Smith said Wednesday he's not sure if star centre Josh Norris will return this season after suffering a shoulder injury over the weekend.
The team was still waiting to see if Norris needed surgery. Smith said Norris could be sidelined as long as five months, which would mean a return to action in March.
Norris left Saturday's win against the Arizona Coyotes in the third period. Taking a faceoff, Norris went down in a heap before skating to the bench on his own and going straight to the locker room.
Norris, 23, suffered a shoulder injury last season that sidelined him for 15 games. Despite this, he led the Senators in goals with 35 in 66 games. He added 20 assists for 55 points.
Veteran Derick Brassard took Norris' spot on a line with Alex DeBrincat and Claude Giroux for some of Monday's 4-2 win over the Dallas Stars, and scored his first goal of the season.
