Senators' Derick Brassard undergoes surgery for fractured fibula

Ottawa Senators forward Derick Brassard underwent surgery Saturday for a fractured fibula with an expected recovery time of six to eight weeks.

Brassard sustained the injury during Thursday's 5-4 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

As teammate Shane Pinto scored in the second period, Brassard got tied up with Flyers goalie Felix Sandstrom. Brassard's right leg appeared to bend awkwardly, and he fell to the ice in pain. Trainers attended to Brassard, and he was helped off the ice.

The 35-year-old Brassard, who played in his 1,000th career game last month, had 23 points (13 goals and 10 assists) in 62 games this season. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent after signing a one-year contract ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
