As the Ottawa Senators‘ youth movement continues, one of the team’s veterans could be on the way out of town.
Ottawa is exploring trade possibilities for forward Derek Stepan, as reported during Saturday’s Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada.
“Ottawa is moving to try and make a move with Derek Stepan,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said. “I don’t think this is a performance issue as much as it’s a family issue. He’s away from his family and I think they want to get him closer.”
Stepan has appeared in 10 games for the Senators this season, picking up one goal and two assists. He has averaged just under 16 minutes of ice time per game and registered a minus-7 rating.
The 30-year-old spent several seasons with the New York Rangers and Arizona Coyotes prior to joining the Senators in a December trade.
