Senators' Joseph, Chabot leave game vs. Flames after sustaining lower-body injuries

Ottawa Senators winger Mathieu Joseph will not return to Sunday's game against the Calgary Flames after sustaining a lower-body injury during the first period.

Joseph, 26, hit the boards awkwardly after he was hit from behind by Flames forward Tyler Toffoli as they both skated for the puck.

Joseph punched the boards after he fell to the ice and could be heard yelling over the broadcast. He then appeared to struggle as he skated off the ice.

The Senators' injury luck went from bad to worse when they lost defenceman Thomas Chabot in the third period.

Chabot blocked a shot with left leg, tried to finish his shift while pressure was in his own end, then hobbled towards the bench and to the locker room. The blue liner didn't return to the game.

Following the game, Sens coach D.J. Smith told reporters that he did not have any updates on either players.

Joseph has three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 43 games this season. He missed time after suffering a lower-body injury back in December.

On his end, Chabot has picked up nine goals and 27 assists in 60 games while averaging 25:27 of time on ice.
