Ottawa Senators centre Nick Cousins was fined $2,083.33 Friday for elbowing Buffalo Sabres defenceman Jacob Bryson.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the CBA.
The incident occurred early into the third period of the Sabres' 4-0 win on Thursday night.
Cousins received a two-minute penalty for the play.
It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Senators, who dropped to a 19-18-3 record and sit fifth in the Atlantic Division.
Ottawa returns to action Saturday on the road against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
