The Ottawa Senators have placed defenceman Michael Del Zotto on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.
The latest in a flurry of moves by general manager Pierre Dorion, Del Zotto's buyout will save the Senators $1.5 million in cap room this season.
The former first-round draft pick split time between Ottawa and its AHL affiliate Belleville last season, playing 26 games for each club and scoring 13 and 27 points, respectively.
Ottawa was the journeyman Del Zotto's eighth NHL stop.
After acquiring Alex DeBrincat from Chicago and dealing Matt Murray's contract to the Leafs, Ottawa is setting itself up to have a busy free agency period.
