Senators recall goalie Matt Murray from AHL Belleville

Senators GM Pierre Dorion discusses the plans that the team has for goalie Matt Murray, and why the club expects him to bounce back and be the tender that they expect he can be.

The Ottawa Senators recalled veteran goalie Matt Murray from Belleville of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

The move came one day after goalie Anton Forsberg entered COVID-19 protocols.

Murray, 27, cleared waivers and was assigned to Belleville in late November after going winless in six games this season, posting a .890 save percentage. He allowed five goals over two appearances for the AHL Senators.

Ottawa acquired Murray from the Penguins ahead of the 2020-21 season and immediately signed him to a four-year, $25-million contract. Forsberg and Filip Gustavsson -- who is also currently in protocols -- have shared the net during Murray's AHL stint.

The Senators (9-17-2) last played Dec. 18 -- a 4-3 overtime loss to the Philadelphia Flyers -- and are currently scheduled to resume play on Friday when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
