The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Josh Brown to a two-year contract, the team announced Monday.
Brown’s deal is valued at $2.4 million, carrying a $1.2-million cap hit for the next two seasons. Per the team’s press release, the rearguard will earn $1 million in 2020-21 and $1.4 million in 2021-22.
The Senators acquired Brown in a trade with the Florida Panthers last week, sending a fourth-round pick (95th overall) in the upcoming draft in exchange for the would-be restricted free agent.
“Josh Brown is a big, strong defenceman who plays a physical style of game,” Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said in last week’s press release upon acquiring Brown in the trade.
“He’s a defensive defenceman who skates very well and who is exceptionally competitive. He’s also a very good shot-blocker who clears a lot of space in front of the net. We’re looking forward to seeing him in our lineup.”
Brown, 26, registered three goals and five assists for eight points in a career-high 56 games in 2019-20, also tallying 39 penalty minutes with the Panthers last season.
