Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stützle avoided a major injury after leaving Monday's game against the Anaheim Ducks, but will be out at least a week with a shoulder strain, head coach D.J. Smith said Wednesday.
Smith said Stützle's ailment was a bruise, contusion-type of injury — nothing structural.
The youngster took a hard hit into the boards from Ducks forward Brett Leason, after which he rushed straight to the locker room. Leason was assessed a two-minute minor for interference after the play.
Stützle, 20, has had a solid start to the 2022-23 season, scoring 10 goals and contributing 17 assists in 27 games for the Senators. Only team captain Brady Tkachuk has more points (30) this season.
Smith also announced forward Tyler Motte will be out about a week, and the Senators have recalled defenceman Dillon Heatherington and forward Jake Lucchini from AHL Belleville.
The Senators are last in the Atlantic Division with an 11-14-2 record, and take on the Montreal Canadiens Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.
