The Ottawa Senators traded defenceman Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenceman Nick Jensen and a 2026 third-round pick on Monday.
Chychrun had one more season remaining on his deal at $4.6 million, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent.
Chychrun was acquired by the Senators from the Arizona Coyotes in March 2023 for three draft picks: a first in 2023 and a pair of second-rounders, in 2024 and 2026.
The offensive defenceman played in all 82 games this season, matching his career-season high with 41 points (14 goals and 27 assists), but the team failed to qualify for the playoffs for the seventh year in a row.
Jensen scored one goal and 14 points while averaging 19:48 per game in 78 games last season.
The 33-year-old has two years left on his contract, which counts $4.05 million against the cap.
