Logan Couture's time in the National Hockey League is coming to an end.
The San Jose Sharks have called for a press conference on Tuesday, where captain Couture will announce he is unable to resume his career, Sportsnet can confirm.
Last season, the 15-year veteran was diagnosed with osteitis pubis, a condition that causes painful inflammation in the groin area. He only played six games that season and has not dressed for a game since Jan. 31, 2024.
Couture has two years remaining on the eight-year, $64 million contract that he signed in July 2018, and is owed $13 million in salary over the next two seasons. Couture will not officially announce his retirement and continue to get paid, while counting $8 million on San Jose's salary cap in each of those seasons.
About 10 years after his NHL debut on Oct. 25, 2009, Couture was named captain of the Sharks ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
Couture finishes his career having recorded 323 goals and 378 assists over 933 games. In the playoffs, he contributed 101 points over 116 games. All of his NHL games were played in a Sharks jersey.
The now 36-year-old was originally drafted ninth overall by San Jose in 2007.
