Sharks defenceman Brent Burns placed in COVID-19 protocol

The San Jose Sharks added defenceman Brent Burns to the league’s COVID-19 protocol on Monday.

Burns is the only Sharks player currently in protocol.

#SJSharks reassigned F Jasper Weatherby and F Jayden Halbgewachs to the @sjbarracuda. Additionally, D Brent Burns has been placed into the NHL's COVID-19 protocol, effective Dec. 17.

The 2017 Norris Trophy winner has two goals and 15 assists in 30 games this season.

The Sharks (15-14-1) are sixth in the Pacific Division and are not slated to play again until after the holiday break.

San Jose was scheduled to host the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday and the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, however, the NHL postponed all cross-border games temporarily as COVID-19 cases have surged across the league.
