San Jose Sharks defenceman Erik Karlsson was named the 2022-23 Norris Trophy winner at Monday night’s NHL Awards ceremony.
This is the third time that the 33-year-old has taken home the honour, previously winning as a member of the Ottawa Senators in 2011-12 and 2014-15.
Adam Fox of the New York Rangers and Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche were the other finalists for the award, each looking to take home a second career Norris Trophy.
Karlsson finished with 123 first-place votes, while Fox and Makar took home 41 and 12 votes, respectively.
Karlsson became the first defenceman since Brian Leetch to surpass the 100-point threshold with his 25-goal, 76-assist and 101-point season for the Sharks.
The 2008 first-round pick, becomes just the second San Jose defenceman to win the award, joining Brent Burns who won in 2016-17.
He joins just eight other players honoured as the NHL’s top defenceman three or more times, joining the likes of Chris Chelios, Paul Coffey, Denis Potvin and Pierre Pilote as three-time winners.
