San Jose Sharks winger Evander Kane called out YouTube star Jake Paul via Twitter on Sunday, challenging him to a boxing match on Aug. 31 in Las Vegas.
In the tweet, Kane said it’s “easy to beat up guys with no experience and much smaller.”
This comes after Saturday night’s bout between Paul and ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, which saw the Internet star knock out the former three-time dunk contest champion in the second round. The tilt was the undercard to the main event between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. that ended in a draw.
Paul has now won both of his career fights, and opted to call out former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor post-game.
“I’m taking this seriously,” Paul said. “I have a long list of opponents I want to fight. Conor McGregor, Dillon Danis — I will knock both of them out.”
While his victory over Robinson was impressive, Paul would find Kane to be a much bigger challenge, both in physical size and experience. Named after famous boxer Evander Holyfield, Kane stands six-foot-two, 210 pounds and is the son of former amateur boxer Perry Kane. Within the NHL, he has a reputation as a feisty player and has seen his share of on-ice combat.
Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Robin Lehner also made it known that he’d like a crack at the YouTube star too, replying to Paul’s tweet calling out McGregor and saying, “I would [expletive] you up.”
Should either of these bouts come to be, they would certainly catch the attention of fans, who blew up Twitter on Saturday following the Paul-Robinson matchup.
