Sharks sign Askarov to two-year contract extension after trade

The San Jose Sharks were quick to lock down their new goaltender.

Shortly after acquiring Yaroslav Askarov from the Nashville Predators on Friday, the Sharks signed him to a two-year, $4-million contract extension, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The 22-year-old Russian, who was drafted 11th overall in 2020 by the Predators, spent the majority of the 2023-24 season in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals. He recorded a 2.39 goals-against average and .911 save percentage with a 30-13-1 record across 44 games.

Askarov has played just three NHL games in his career — two this past season and one the season before.

The new contract kicks in after next season as Askarov still has one year remaining on his three-year, entry-level deal worth $2.78 million.
