The San Jose Sharks have signed defenceman Luca Cagnoni to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Cagnoni led all defenceman in the Western Hockey League in scoring with 90 points (18 goals and 72 assists) in 65 games for the Portland Winterhawks. He also had 13 points (three goals and 10 assists) in 13 playoff games.
“Luca is an intelligent two-way defenceman with a strong playmaking skillset,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said in a release. “He had an impressive season individually for the Winterhawks, showcasing his ability to make plays on the offensive side of the puck while also being an effective player in his own zone. We are happy to have him a part of the organization.“
The 19-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., was drafted in the fourth round, 123rd overall, by the Sharks in 2023.
He has registered 193 points (44 goals and 149 assists) in 205 games over four seasons with Portland.
