The San Jose Sharks have signed Filip Zadina to a one-year, $1.1 million contract, the team announced Monday.
The former Detroit Red Wings forward became an unrestricted free agent after clearing unconditional waivers and having his contract terminated last week.
Zadina, who had also cleared regular waivers, had three goals and four assists in 30 games with the Red Wings last season.
"A couple weeks prior to the draft, through his agent, he had asked if he could potentially go somewhere else, looking for more opportunity, a fresh start," Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman said last Monday. "I've tried to do that. I've tried to find a place for him to play. Somebody who's interested in Filip, maybe give him that opportunity. I haven't been able to do that."
The 23-year-old from Pardubice, Czechia, was drafted sixth overall by Detroit in 2018. He registered 68 points (28 goals and 40 assists) in 190 games over five seasons with the Red Wings.
