Sportsnet Studios will debut on the first Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey of the season, offering more opportunities for fan engagement with state-of-the-art technology.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens kick off the doubleheader at 7 p.m. ET before the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks clash at 10 p.m. ET.
The two studios will include several new features.
• Virtual reality set extensions will allow the broadcast to expand into the virtual world of the Sportsnet Stadium and transport hosts, analysts and reporters into new mediums.
• Augmented reality will lift player statistics and graphics off the screen and into 3D.
• Improved data capabilities to bolster stats, graphics and content.
“The Sportsnet Studios are for Canada’s sports fans, first and foremost. The investment made in these studios is representative of the way Sportsnet is adapting everything we do to better serve today’s sports fans in the ways they want,” said Bart Yabsley, President, Sportsnet.
The studios will include 22 set monitors, a 50-foot curved, floor-to-ceiling LED wall, 250 LED broadcast lighting features and 13 studio cameras.
Sportsnet Studios will be used on Hockey Night in Canada, Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey and regional broadcasts for the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs games.
