Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos says he’s healthy and ready for the start of training camp.
Stamkos underwent surgery to repair a lower abdominal core muscle in October but has fully recovered and is feeling “comfortable on the ice” as camp opens Sunday.
The 30-year-old suffered a lower-body injury prior to the NHL’s return to play last summer, which kept him out until Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Dallas Stars. He ended up aggravating the injury in that game and did not return to the series, but still managed to lift the Cup after the Lightning’s triumph in Game 6.
Stamkos registered 29 goals and 66 points in 57 regular-season games last year.
Tampa Bay opens its 2020-21 campaign against the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 13.
