  • Stars buying out Ryan Suter's contract

Veteran defenceman Ryan Suter will be looking for a new hockey home.

Sportsnet's Jeff Marek reports the Dallas Stars are buying out the remainder of Ryan Suter's contract. The move will make Suter a free agent.

Here is a look at how the move will affect the Stars and Suter, via CapFriendly.

Suter has one more year on his four-year deal with a cap hit of $3.65 million.

The Stars will save just over $1.4 million with the buyout.

It marks the second time Suter, 39, has had his contract bought out.

The Minnesota Wild bought out the final four years of his contract in 2021.

Suter had two goals and 15 assists in 82 games last season, helping the Stars advance to the Western Conference Final.

While Suter is a 35-plus-age player, he is exempt from the 35-plus buyout rules because the contract is not front-loaded and does not have a signing bonus after the first year of the deal.
