  • Tanev, Markstrom return to practice with Flames, could play Monday

Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom and defenceman Chris Tanev were both on the ice for the team's morning skate Saturday, a positive sign for their respective recoveries from injury.

Speaking to reporters afterward, head coach Ryan Huska said both players could be ready to go as soon as Monday, when the Flames take on Matthew Tkachuk and the Florida Panthers.

Markstrom, 33, has been sidelined since sustaining a fractured finger during a practice on Dec. 4 and is currently on injured reserve.

He has posted a 6-8-2 record this season with a 2.94 GAA and an .896 save percentage in 16 appearances.

Dan Vladar and Dustin Wolf have filled in during his absence.

Tanev, 33, suffered an upper-body injury on Dec. 11 against the Colorado Avalanche. A hard hit from forward Ross Colton sent him right down the tunnel after just 15 seconds of ice time.

In 28 games this season, Tanev has one goal and six assists for a total of seven points.

Catch the Flames versus the Tampa Bay Lightning on Hockey Night in Canada, airing on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 10 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. MT.
