Tavares, Liljegren won't play for Maple Leafs against Capitals

The Toronto Maple Leafs won't have centre John Tavares and defenceman Timothy Liljegren in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Washington Capitals.

Tavares is being given the night off for rest while Liljegren is dealing with a minor issue.

Auston Matthews will play. John Tavares will take a load management night.

Jason Spezza and Carl Dahlstrom will draw into the lineup to replace Tavares and Liljegren. Michael Bunting is still with the team on their road trip and will get tests done in Toronto after leaving Saturday's game against the Florida Panthers.

Justin Holl spoke with Michael Bunting: "His spirits are OK. Obviously, he's frustrated. What he says is, 'It's a bad time of year to have something like this happen.' Which is true — but we don't really know what the severity is. So, everyone's fingers are crossed."

Defenceman Jake Muzzin remains sidelined as he deals with an undisclosed injury that has kept him out of the team's last six games.
