Forward Tomas Tatar and the Colorado Avalanche have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.5-million contract, general manager Chris MacFarland announced Tuesday.
Tatar, 32, was considered among the top NHL free agents still available late in the offseason. He joins a retooled Colorado roster with the likes of New Jersey teammate Miles Wood and former Montreal forward Jonathan Drouin, added with captain Gabriel Landeskog out for the season following another knee surgery.
"Tomas has been a consistent, productive player throughout his NHL career," MacFarland said. “He is a veteran winger who brings scoring depth to our middle six and can contribute at both ends of the ice. We are excited to have him under contract for this season.”
The native of Slovakia has 455 points in 783 regular-season NHL games. Tatar helped Vegas reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2018 and had 20 goals and 28 assists for 48 points in 82 games last season with the Devils before becoming an unrestricted free agent.
Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings 60th overall in 2009, Tatar also spent three seasons with the Montreal Canadiens from 2018 to 2021, where he played with Drouin.
