Goalie movement is expected to be particularly volatile this off-season.
Darcy Kuemper, Jack Campbell, Martin Jones and Ilya Samsonov were among the netminders to join new teams on the open market in 2022 and one of those four will also be available when 2023 free agency opens on July 1.
With that in mind, here are 10 UFA goaltenders to watch this summer.
Tristan Jarry
Age: 28
2022-23 Cap Hit: 3.5M (Penguins)
The 28-year-old was Pittsburgh’s top goalie this past season but his 24-13-7 record, .909 save percentage and 2.90 goals-against average were all worse than the numbers he posted the year prior when he finished seventh in Vezina Trophy voting.
Joonas Korpisalo
Age: 29
2022-23 Cap Hit: 1.3M (Blue Jackets, Kings)
The 29-year-old had gone several years playing below .500 hockey with the Blue Jackets before a 7-3-1 run down the stretch with the Kings, posting a solid .921 save percentage and 2.13 GAA, after being acquired in a March trade. He also started all six of L.A.’s post-season contests. He’s one of the few available netminders who could end up finding a starting job.
Adin Hill
Age: 27
2022-23 Cap Hit: $2.175M (Golden Knights)
After going 16-7-1 in the regular season, Hill upped his game in the playoffs and ended up backstopping the Golden Knights to a Stanley Cup championship. His 11-4 showing when the games mattered most could land him a nice deal. His .932 save percentage was best in the playoffs and he only turned 27 in May.
Frederik Andersen
Age: 33
2022-23 Cap Hit: $4.5M (Hurricanes)
Andersen shared the Jennings Trophy in 2022 and finished fourth in Vezina voting during his first season with the Hurricanes but his most recent campaign was interrupted due to injuries. The 33-year-old can still play at a high level and can help any crease he ends up in. He started nine playoff games for Carolina in 2023 and posted a 1.83 GAA in those games.
Semyon Varlamov
Age: 35
2023-23 Cap Hit: $5M (Islanders)
Varlamov took a back seat to Ilya Sorokin in his last two seasons with the Islanders but he should be coveted by teams looking to bolster their goaltending duo. He has made at least $5 million per season since 2014-15 but could come at a reduced price at age 35.
Antti Raanta
Age: 34
2023-23 Cap Hit: $2M (Hurricanes)
Andersen’s Hurricanes teammate is also set to hit the open market and could be a nice value find for a team looking for a veteran backup or 1B option. The 34-year-old has made an average of $2 million per year his past two seasons and is coming off a 19-3-3 regular season showing.
Martin Jones
Age: 33
2022-23 Cap Hit: $2M (Kraken)
No UFA goalie played in and won more games in 2022-23 than Jones did. Jones, 33, went 27-13-3 with the Kraken after signing a one-year, $2-million deal last summer. His .886 save percentage and 2.99 GAA weren’t great, though, and he only saw action in one game during Seattle’s first playoff run.
Joey Daccord
Age: 26
2023-23 Cap Hit: $750,000 (Kraken)
Although he only made four starts with the Kraken in 2022-23, Daccord had a standout year with the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds. He went 26-8-3 in the regular season with a 2.38 GAA and.918 save percentage and went 15-11 in 26 playoff contests. At 26, he presents clear upside and some untapped potential.
Laurent Brossoit
Age: 30
2022-23 Cap Hit: 2.325M (Golden Knights)
Now a Stanley Cup champion, Brossoit didn’t lose a regular-season game in 2022-23, going 7-0-3, before contributing to Vegas’s championship run with a 5-2 record in the post-season.
Alex Lyon
Age: 30
2023-23 Cap Hit: $750,000 (Panthers)
After a respectable 9-4-2 regular season with the Panthers he couldn’t quite keep it up in the playoff, going just 1-2 before Sergei Bobrovsky took over, but the 30-year-old could garner attention from teams looking for a new backup.
Other notable UFA goalies: Cam Talbot, Jonathan Quick, Alex Stalock, Alex Nedeljkovic
