Philadelphia Flyers coach John Tortorella is putting the onus on himself after the team's tailspin continues.
The slumping Flyers suffered a 7-2 thumping Tuesday at the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs and are a league-worst 1-8-1 in their past 10 games.
Tortorella told reporters after the game that it's his job to prepare the team for these kinds of situations, and he hasn't done a good enough job during their past couple of games.
"This falls on me," Tortorella said. "I’m not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season where we’re at right now, but I have to do a better job.
"So this falls on me, getting the team prepared to play the proper way until we get to the end."
Tortorella is ninth on the all-time wins list among coaches and guided the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Stanley Cup in 2004. However, Philadelphia has yet to make the playoffs in his three seasons behind the bench.
The Flyers (28-36-5) are 10 points out of a wild-card spot with nine games remaining in the regular season.
Philadelphia returns to action Thursday at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
