Former Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving has been given permission to talk to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins about GM openings, with the condition he not help those teams prepare for the draft if he takes a job in the coming weeks.
Treliving, 53, and the Flames parted ways in April after the team failed to make the playoffs despite replacing departed stars Matthew Tkachuk and Johnny Gaudreau with Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar and Nazem Kadri.
After what appeared to be a promising summer, the Flames crashed and burned, finishing with a 38-27-17 record, which was 11 points out of the last wild-card berth.
On May 1, the Flames fired coach Darryl Sutter.
