U.S. President Joe Biden apparently is not a part of Leafs Nation.
Seems the same can be said for many of the members of the House of Commons after their reaction to Biden's playful jab at the Toronto Maple Leafs during his first official visit to Canada on Friday.
Speaking to Parliament about all the ways the two countries are connected, Biden made his way to sports.
"Our labour unions cross borders. So do our sports leagues. Baseball, basketball, hockey, listen to this, hockey," Biden said.
"I have to say, I like your teams except the Leafs."
With that, Biden got a standing ovation from many HOC members before explaining his dislike for the Leafs.
"I'll tell you why. They beat the Flyers back in January, that's why. ... I married a Philly girl (Jill Biden), if I didn't say that, I'd be sleeping alone and fellas I like you, but not that much."
Indeed, Toronto did beat the out-of-contention Flyers 6-2 back on Jan. 8 -- a game that was nothing more than a footnote to this year's Leafs season until Biden's speech.
It's not the first time Biden has mentioned he is a Flyers fan. He talked about his love for the Flyers as Vice President in 2010 with the Chicago Tribune.
“I have to tell you I am guilty as charged,” the native of Scranton, Pa., said. “I am a Philadelphia Flyers fan and I make no bones about it. I was a Flyers fan before, but then I married a Philly girl."
