Sean Durzi will be part of Utah’s future, the Hockey Club announced on Sunday, after the two sides agreed on a four-year contract extension.
The contract carries a $6 million average annual value.
Durzi, 25, averaged nearly 23 minutes of ice time during his first year in Arizona last season while leading all defencemen in points with 41.
Originally selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second round of the 2018 draft, the Mississauga, Ont. native arrived in Arizona in a deal last summer after spending his first two NHL seasons with the Los Angeles Kings.
Durzi is coming off a career year offensively and has shown signs of becoming a core piece for the relocated side to build off of in the years to come.
He spent the majority of his time in Arizona last season on the team’s top pairing, playing alongside Swiss defender J.J Moser.
Moser was traded this weekend to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a blockbuster deal for top defenceman Mikhail Sergachev.
