After being selected sixth overall in the 2024 draft, Utah Hockey Club forward Tij Iginla will have his junior season cut short.
The team announced Wednesday that Iginla underwent successful hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 WHL season.
Iginla, 18, has been playing with the Kelowna Rockets, where he has scored 14 goals and 32 points over 21 games this season.
“Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game,” said Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton in a statement released by the team. “We wish Tij a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him return next season.”
The son of NHL Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla, Tij played in two pre-season games with Utah, recording an assist while averaging 12 minutes and 24 seconds of ice time per game.
