The Montreal Canadiens, mired in one of the worst seasons in the franchise’s storied history, made a decisive change on Wednesday, firing head coach Dominique Ducharme and replacing him on an interim basis with Martin St. Louis.
St. Louis, the Hockey Hall of Fame forward whose 16-season NHL career saw him win the Stanley Cup in 2004, will be assuming the mantle behind the Canadiens bench with limited experience in the role. Despite his decorated playing career, his only NHL-level experience outside of playing was a special teams consulting position with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2018-19.
Behind the bench, St. Louis was head coach of the Mid Fairfield Rangers under 13s AAA in Connecticut during the 2021-22 season.
The new Canadiens coach will field questions from the media on Thursday and his answers can be seen in their entirety right here on Sportsnet.ca, starting at approximately 11:30 a.m. ET, through the video player atop this page.
