The Minnesota Wild have placed defenceman and team captain Jared Spurgeon on the long-term injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
In a subsequent move, forward Jujhar Khaira was recalled from AHL affiliate the Iowa Wild.
Spurgeon, 33, has been dealing with an upper-body injury all season and has yet to take the ice for the Wild.
He was deemed week-to-week after sustaining the injury in Minnesota's second-to-last pre-season game against the Blackhawks on Oct. 5 following a hit from Reese Johnson.
Spurgeon has spent his entire 14-year career with the Wild and has notched 110 goals and 379 points in 851 career games in Minnesota. He was named as the team captain in the 2020-21 season.
Khaira, 29, signed with the Wild in the off-season on a one-year, two-way deal after spending the past two seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks. He has four assists in four AHL games so far this year.
He had six goals and 14 points in 51 appearances last season for the Blackhawks.
