The Minnesota Wild have signed defenceman Jon Merrill to a one-year, $850-thousand contract, the team announced Thursday.

Merrill, 29, is coming off a 49-game season split between the Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens. He played 13 games in Montreal’s run to the Stanley Cup Final, registering 23 blocked shots.
The six-foot-three Oklahoma City, Okla., native enters his 10th NHL season in 2021-22. Joining the Wild will mark the fifth different team in his career after previous stints with the New Jersey Devils, Vegas Golden Nights, Red Wings and Canadiens.
The rearguard has accumulated 66 points, 364 hits and 507 blocked shots in 405 games.
