Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman has been suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety after tripping Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat in Sunday's game.
The incident came in the third period of Detroit's 4-1 win as DeBrincat got in Hartman's way while he chased down centre Michael Rasmussen.
Hartman intentionally reached out with his right leg, knocking DeBrincat backwards onto the ice. The play ended up as a no-call for Hartman but DeBrincat was given a cross-checking penalty after retaliating.
The 29-year-old Hartman has been suspended twice and fined six times in his career for slew-footing or tripping his opponents and other related incidents, contributing to his two-game sentence.
His most recent suspension came in April 2023, which makes him a repeat offender under the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Hartman has seven goals and 11 points in 18 games for a disappointing Wild team so far this season.
