With the NHL's 4 Nations Face-Off tournament set for next year, there's already plenty of speculation about what the teams will look like both on the player and staff front.
USA Hockey put together one piece of the puzzle on Friday, announcing Bill Guerin as the country's general manager not only for the tournament but also for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Guerin, currently the Minnesota Wild's general manager, is a three-time U.S. Olympian himself.
So, who should we expect Canada to choose for the role? During the Saturday Headlines segment as part of Hockey Night in Canada, Elliotte Friedman addressed the possibility of St. Louis Blues GM Doug Armstrong leading the Canadian squad in 2025.
"Bill Guerin was announced yesterday for Team USA. (As for) Team Canada, at this point in time, there's no timeframe to do it," said Friedman. "But don't forget, Doug Armstrong was supposed to lead the Olympic team in 2022. He had to step down when the NHL players (didn't go to) that tournament."
Armstrong has worked within the management group for various Canadian international teams in the past. Most notably, he served as an assistant GM for the gold medal-winning Olympic squads in 2010 and 2014.
Friedman added, "I have asked around if Armstrong will get another chance and I've been told, 'Good guess,' but nothing confirmed at this point in time."
Similar to Armstrong, Guerin was also tabbed for the 2022 Olympics before the NHL pulled out.
