Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill has Windsor Spitfires head coach Marc Savard on his list of candidates to fill the team's coaching vacancy, Jeff Marek reported on 32 Thoughts on Saturday.
The former NHL forward is in his first season coaching Windsor and has guided the Spitfires to the OHL's Western Conference final.
The Spitfires roster includes Stars 2021 first-round pick Wyatt Johnston.
"I don't want to handicap where Marc Savard fits in this equation, but let's just say he is very much on Jim Nill's radar," Marek said.
The Stars are looking for a coach after announcing Rick Bowness, whose contract is up, will not return. Dallas lost in Game 7 in the first round against the Calgary Flames.
Savard's playing career was cut short by concussion problems in 2011. He had 207 goals and 499 assists in 807 career NHL games.
Meanwhile, Elliotte Friedman also reported on 32 Thoughts that Rick Tocchet could be a candidate for the Stars. Friedman said the former Arizona Coyotes and Tampa Bay Lightning coach was a possibility for the Stars when they were considering a mid-season coaching change.
