Avalanche re-sign defenceman Dennis Gilbert to one-year contract

The Colorado Avalanche avoided an arbitration hearing with defenceman Dennis Gilbert after the two sides agreed to a one-year contract Monday.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported it’s a two-way deal that will pay Gilbert $750,000 in the NHL and $160,000 in the AHL.

The 24-year-old from Buffalo appeared in three games with the Avalanche last season recording five penalty minutes. He also played 17 games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles with one goal and seven assists.

Gilbert was drafted in the third round, 91st overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015 and was traded to Colorado alongside Brandon Saad for Anton Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov on Oct. 10, 2020.
