The Colorado Avalanche are adding some experience to their defence corps.

Colorado announced Monday that it has signed defenceman Calvin de Haan to a one-year contract.

The 33-year-old played in 59 games last season for the Tampa Bay Lightning and scored three goals and 10 points. He also skated in one playoff game during Tampa Bay’s first-round series loss to the Florida Panthers.

The Carp, Ont. native has played in 12 NHL seasons, spending time with the Lightning, Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Blackhawks.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported the deal is worth $800,000.
