Avalanche’s Ross Colton fined $5K for tripping Ducks’ Leo Carlsson

Colorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton has been fined $5,000 for a dangerous trip on Leo Carlsson of the Anaheim Ducks, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced Sunday.

The fine is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The incident occurred at 3:31 into the third period of Saturday’s game.

Colton was given a minor penalty for tripping on the play.

Carlsson, who already had a goal and an assist in the game, added the winner in the shootout to lift the Ducks to a 4-3 victory.
