Blackhawks sign forward Teuvo Teravainen to three-year deal

After scoring a career-best 25 goals in 2023-24, Teuvo Teravainen is heading back to Chicago.

The 29-year-old forward and the Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a three-year, $16.2 million deal on Monday, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Teravainen had spent the last eight seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, racking up 138 goals and 415 points in 555 games with the franchise. A native of Helsinki, Finland, Teravainen scored nine power-play goals on the way to his career-high while adding 28 assists in 2023-24.

Before joining the Hurricanes in 2016-17 via trade, the five-foot-11 winger began his career with the Blackhawks, winning the Stanley Cup with the team in his second NHL season in 2014-15. He was drafted by Chicago 18th overall in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Over 11 years in the NHL, Teravainen has played in the post-season eight times, including six straight appearances with Carolina. In the 2023-24 playoffs, he scored two goals and six points before the Hurricanes were eliminated by the New York Rangers in the second round.

In total, he has 23 goals and 50 points over 90 playoff games.
