The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Alex Nylander from the Chicago Blackhawks for Sam Lafferty on Wednesday.

Nylander, who was selected eighth overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2016, missed all of last season due to a knee injury. The 23-year-old has eight goals and four assists in 23 games with the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League this year.
His best season came in 2019-20 when he scored 10 goals and 16 assists with Chicago after arriving via trade from Buffalo.
Lafferty was drafted in the fourth round, 113th overall, by the Penguins in 2014. The 26-year-old has six goals and 15 assists in 94 games over the past three seasons with Pittsburgh including two assists in 10 games in 2021-22.
