Rick Nash has earned a promotion.
The Columbus Blue Jackets promoted their former star player to director of hockey operations on Friday, the team announced.
Nash had served as the team’s director of player development for the past three seasons. He started with the team as a special assistant to the GM in 2019.
The Brampton, Ont., native retired as a player in 2019 after 15 seasons with the Blue Jackets, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins. In 1,060 career NHL games, Nash recorded 437 goals and 368 assists.
It’s been a busy year for Nash, as he was also Team Canada’s general manager at the men’s world hockey championship in May. The Canadians finished fourth after losing to Sweden in the bronze-medal game.
Nash won gold for Canada as a player at the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, and suited up four times at the worlds, topping the podium once and finishing second twice.
