Blues sign defenceman Pierre-Oliver Joseph to one-year deal

There will be a new brother duo on the ice in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Blues have signed defenceman Pierre-Oliver Joseph to a one-year, $950,000 contract, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Tuesday.

The signing comes just hours after the Blues acquired Joseph’s brother, Mathieu, in a trade with the Ottawa Senators.

Pierre-Oliver, 25, played in 52 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, recording two goals and nine assists. The Laval, Que., native was originally drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

He has played in 147 career NHL games, all with the Penguins, and has eight goals and 29 assists.

His brother Mathieu, a forward, has 55 goals and 80 assists for 135 points in 360 career games with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Senators.
